Many people are unfamiliar with chiropractic. The following is aimed at helping the public to choose a chiropractor.

As Singapore does not have statutory regulation for chiropractors, it is possible for unqualified persons to misrepresent themselves as chiropractors. Members of the public should determine if
their chiropractor is a professional member of The Chiropractic Association (Singapore).

Professional membership is limited to chiropractors who are graduates of accredited universities or colleges of chiropractic, whose course meets the Council on Chiropractic Eduational – International’s standard of education.

Further, if the doctor of chiropractic practised in another jursisdiction after qualifying and prior to coming to Singapore, they must show that they were in good standing with their previous chiropractic regulating body.

Beyond the basics of qualification, the relationship between a patient and their doctor is a personal one, and patients may consider factors that will make them comfortable with the doctor of their choice. That may be recommendations based on a patient’s relatives’ or friend’s prior experience, or simply convenience of location and clinic hours.

As chiropractic is a relatively new profession in Singapore, many family physicians and even specialists are unacquainted with the research demonstrating the effectiveness of chiropractic for back and neck pain, and related conditions of the nerves, muscles and joints of the body.

It is not uncommon that your GP would not personally know, or have an established referral relationship, with a chiropractor. However, these referral relationships are becoming increasingly common.
